INTERVIEW : HOWARD x DECASIA

C’est la rentrée ! 

Pour fêter cela et la nouvelle version 2 .0 de K-RPM !, quoi de mieux qu’un bon concert ? C’est donc avec nos chouchous HOWARD et DECASIA que nous nous sommes retrouvé à Petit Bain en ce vendredi 12 septembre pour la release party du dernier album d’Howard, Oscillations, sorti fin mars dernier, déjà ! Interview croisée avec les deux groupes pour faire le point sur leurs actus respectives, en exclusivité pour K-RPM !

Decasia en première partie avant le feu Howard, quoi de plus logique pour deux groupes amis de longue date ? Les shows sont maitrisés, efficaces et les aficionados bien présents, salle bondée et joyeuse qui se lance dans un wall of love lancé par JM, voix surpuissante et batterie en mode rouleau compresseur, clavier et thérémines au diapason, message militant pour la cause queer et coming out non binaire improvisé et émouvant, message sincère quand JM nous dit que « ce soir c’est particulier, on fête la sortie de notre album (…) on s’est ouvert plus que jamais et ça nous a rapproché plus que jamais », collab’ folle entre les deux groupes sur un titre avec les Decasia slamant allègrement… Bref une bien belle soirée !

K-RPM : Quel est votre état d’esprit pour cette release sachant que l’album est déjà sorti depuis un petit moment ? 

HOWARD : C’est une première pour nous, de faire une release quelques mois après la sortie, et franchement bonne expérience ! Au final, ça nous a permis de bosser d’arrache-pied sur le live, de garder beaucoup d’énergie pour le Hellfest cet été et d’arriver confiants par rapport au show qu’on allait proposer à Petit Bain. Une sortie d’album, c’est un évènement ultra important dans la vie d’un groupe, donc étaler les rendez-vous sur plusieurs mois, ça nous permet aussi de faire durer le plaisir

K-RPM : Une tournée de prévue après les belles scènes de cet été ? Quelles ont été les retombées après le Hellfest par exemple ? 

HOWARD : Eh oui ! On a pas mal de chouettes dates à venir, le mieux étant de se reporter à nos réseaux pour voir tout ce qui est annoncé et ne rien manquer : en ce moment même, dans les méandres des boites mails, des choses se confirment et on tient au courant au fur et à mesure. Il y en a un peu partout en France alors checkez bien ça !

K-RPM : Inviter Decasia une évidence ? Pourquoi ce choix ? 

HOWARD : On a fait nos premiers concert à Paris il y a un moment déjà, et Decasia fait partie de ces groupes qu’on a croisé dès le début, et avec qui le courant est passé direct. C’est toujours un plaisir de voir que les trajectoires sont parallèles et qu’après des années, on passe toujours des super moments ensemble. Inviter un groupe pour partager la soirée, c’est aussi l’occasion d’offrir au public un plateau cohérent mais pas rébarbatif : entre Decasia et nous, il y a des racines communes mais des manières différentes d’amener la salle vers une transe joyeuse, et c’est ça qu’on voulait faire vivre à Petit Bain. En plus, c’est Max (guitariste de Decasia) qui a designé et fabriqué nos thérémines géants. Double évidence de les inviter sur scène à jammer avec lesdits thérémines pendant le set !

DECASIA : Avec Howard cela fait 7-8 ans qu’on se connaît et qu’on a partagé beaucoup de dates ensemble. Notre première date c’est sûrement le Supersonic en 2018 – après discussion avec les Howard notre première date remonte à Dijon en 2018 !

K-RPM : Et finalement on en a jamais parlé mais pourquoi vous vous appelez Howard au fait ?



HOWARD : Haha, c’est vrai ça ! On a choisi ce nom il y a looooongtemps ! A la base, c’était une référence à Lovecraft, dont on pensait que l’univers allait beaucoup inspirer notre musique. Et puis bon, on a choisi comme souvent d’en faire ce qu’on voulait, et de faire péter les codes qu’on s’était fixés au départ. Howard, c’est simplement devenu l’entité qui se crée quand on est ensemble. Ce projet, c’est la somme de nos trois vécus, un nom derrière lequel on se rassemble pour partager avec le public. Bye, Lovecraft !

K-RPM : Et côté Decasia ? 

DECASIA : Decasia ça vient d’un film fait par un gars qui fait vieillir des anciens films et qui les projette en composant une musique un peu chelou :

K-RPM : Petit update aussi pour vous, quelle est l’actu Decasia à venir ?

DECASIA : Pour l’actu, on va prendre la fin de l’année pour finir la composition de l’album et se mettre sur l’artwork et l’enregistrement ! On prépare 4 démos en parallèle, les 4 premiers nouveaux titres enregistrés, joués à Petit Bain vendredi pour démarcher labels et bookeurs pour 2026 !

Affaire à suivre donc ! 

INTERVIEW : HOWARD x DECASIA

It’s back to school time for us, and so to celebrate this new version 2.0 of K-RPM!, what’s better than a good concert? So, it was with our favorites HOWARD and DECASIA that we met at the Petit Bain this Friday, September 12th, for the release party for Howard’s latest album, Oscillations, released at the end of March for a joint interview with the two bands to catch up on their respective news, exclusively for K-RPM!

Decasia opened the show—what could be more logical for two longtime friends? Both sets were well-executed, effective, and the aficionados were in full force. The room was packed and joyful, launching into a wall of love led by JM, with his powerful voice and steamroller-like drums, keyboard and theremins in tune. He delivered an improvised and moving message of activism for the queer cause and non-binary coming out. JM told us that “tonight is special, we’re celebrating the release of our album (…) we’ve opened up more than ever, and it’s brought us closer than ever.” A crazy collaboration between the two groups on a track featuring Decasia, slamming joyfully… In short, a truly wonderful evening!

K-RPM: What’s your mindset for this release, given that the album has already been out for a while?

HOWARD: It’s a first for us, doing a release a few months after the release, and it’s honestly a great experience! In the end, it allowed us to work hard on the live show, save a lot of energy for Hellfest this summer, and arrive confident about the show we were going to offer at Petit Bain. An album release is a hugely important event in a band’s life, so spreading out the dates over several months also allows us to prolong the pleasure.

K-RPM: Is there a tour planned after this summer’s great shows? What has the response been like after Hellfest, for example?

HOWARD: Yes! We have quite a few great dates coming up. The best thing to do is to check our social media to see everything that’s been announced and not miss anything: right now, in the twists and turns of our inboxes, things are being confirmed, and we’re keeping them updated as they happen. There are some all over France, so make sure you check them out!

K-RPM: Was inviting Decasia a no-brainer? Why this choice?

HOWARD: We played our first shows in Paris a while ago, and Decasia is one of those bands we met right from the start, and with whom we hit it off immediately. It’s always a pleasure to see that our paths are parallel and that, after years, we’re still having a great time together. Inviting a band to share the evening is also an opportunity to offer the audience a cohesive but not off-putting lineup: between Decasia and us, we share common roots but different ways of bringing the audience into a joyful trance, and that’s what we wanted to experience at Petit Bain. Plus, it was Max (Decasia’s guitarist) who designed and built our giant theremins. It was a no-brainer to invite them on stage to jam with said theremins during the set!

DECASIA: Howard and I have known each other for 7-8 years and have shared many shows together. Our first date is definitely Supersonic in 2018 – after discussing it with the Howards, our first date was in Dijon in 2018!

K-RPM: And in the end, we never talked about it, but why are you called Howard anyway?

HOWARD: Haha, that’s true! We chose that name a looooong time ago! Originally, it was a reference to Lovecraft, whose universe we thought would greatly inspire our music. And then, as we often do, we chose to do what we wanted with it and to break the rules we had initially set for ourselves. Howard simply became the entity that is created when we are together. This project is the sum of our three experiences, a name behind which we come together to share with the public. Bye, Lovecraft!

K-RPM: And what about Decasia?

DECASIA: Decasia comes from a film made by a guy who ages old films and projects them while composing some rather weird music:

K-RPM: A quick update for you too, what’s the upcoming Decasia news?

DECASIA: For the news, we’re taking the end of the year off to finish composing the album and get started on the artwork and recording! We’re preparing four demos at the same time, the first four new tracks recorded, performed at Petit Bain on Friday to approach labels and bookers for 2026!
